November Student Spotlight : Maddy

november maddyHi Everyone!
This month we would like to put the spotlight on Maddy who completed the Conditional Nurse Support Program recently.  Maddy graduated with her Bachelors in Nursing from Deakin University in 2017. Since she was unable to gain any experience within her first two years after graduation, AHPRA placed conditions on Maddy's registration requiring her to complete 450 hours of supervised practice as a deferred graduate. Maddy was able to complete these hours through the Conditional Nurse Support Program at South Eastern Private Hospital in Melbourne.
1) Hi Maddy, thanks for taking the time to chat with us more about your experience at AHA. What led you to apply to the Conditional Nurse Support Program?
After university I did not get a grad year but was working as a PCA. I worked as a PCA and started applying for jobs but could not get a job and as time went on it got more complicated to get a job as I had not applied my skills in some time. AHPRA then put conditions on my registration which meant I had to work under supervision I looked at universities but nothing was offering what I needed which was hours of practical experience.
2) How did you find your supervised practice placement?
I got a job there which should say something. This is what I really needed. I lacked so much confidence leaving uni but doing this placement and just spending so many hours at the hospital was great. I really needed more hands-on experience during university.

3) What was the best part of your experience with AHA?
The online workshop was fine, but the best part was meeting up in person. The educators where great, they were open to all questions and were very well informed.
4) Did you obtain employment through the program?
Yes. I am very happy that I got a job on the ward I was working on during my supervised practice.
5) Would you recommend this program to others?
Yes, definitely! It was a great way to get experience and gain confidence.
If you're a nurse with conditions on your registration due to being a deferred graduate or from not meeting AHPRA's recency of practice requirements, the Conditional Nurse Support Program offers a 5 day intensive workshop followed by 12 weeks of supervised practice. We will assist with the completion of all AHPRA required paperwork and also provide you with support and education whilst completing your hours.  2022 course dates will be announced and applications opened up in mid November. If you want to stay in the loop, fill out the interest form on the website page and we will email you once dates are open.
If you have any questions about any of our other programs, email us on, book a time for us to give you a call, or give us a call on 1300 953 276.
That's all for today, thanks for reading, make sure you check back next month to see what student we feature next!
